Authorities in Prayagraj have ordered the closure of all schools until August 7, 2025, as relentless heavy rains continue to wreak havoc across Uttar Pradesh, causing widespread waterlogging and disruption. The decision has been taken to ensure the safety of students and staff amidst the challenging weather conditions and rising water levels in rivers.
The continuous downpour over the past few days has led to a significant increase in water levels of major rivers, including the Ganga and Yamuna, which converge in Prayagraj. Low-lying areas in the city are grappling with severe waterlogging, making travel difficult and posing a risk to public health. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and has advised residents to take necessary precautions.
“Given the severe weather conditions and the safety of our children, all schools in Prayagraj will remain closed until August 7,” stated District Magistrate. “We urge parents and guardians to keep their children indoors and cooperate with the authorities during this period.”
Beyond Prayagraj, other districts across Uttar Pradesh are also facing the brunt of the heavy monsoon rains. Reports from various parts of the state indicate extensive waterlogging in urban areas, disruption of power supply, and damage to infrastructure. Agricultural fields in many regions are submerged, raising concerns about crop losses. Relief and rescue operations are reportedly underway in the most affected areas, with disaster management teams assisting residents.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued advisories, predicting continued rainfall in several parts of Uttar Pradesh for the next few days. This forecast suggests that the flood-like situation in some areas may persist or even worsen, necessitating ongoing vigilance from both authorities and the public.
Residents are advised to avoid venturing into waterlogged areas, stay away from riverbanks, and follow official weather warnings. The closure of schools in Prayagraj serves as a stark reminder of the widespread impact of the current monsoon fury on daily life in Uttar Pradesh.
