A devastating cloudburst in the high-altitude villages of Dharali, Uttarakhand, has triggered a flash flood, causing significant damage and loss of life. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have both extended their condolences to the affected families and assured them of full central assistance in the ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
PM Modi’s Message of Support
In a post on social media, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. He confirmed that he had spoken with Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami to receive an update on the situation and that rescue teams are working tirelessly to assist those affected. “I pray for the well-being of all the victims,” PM Modi stated, emphasizing that “no stone is being left unturned” in providing aid to the people of Dharali.
Home Minister Amit Shah Mobilizes Rescue Teams
Following the incident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke with CM Dhami and took immediate action. He ordered the dispatch of seven specialized rescue teams to the site. Three teams from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), who were stationed nearby, were sent to the area, while four teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were also mobilized and are en route to the location. These teams are tasked with engaging in rescue and relief operations to help the people impacted by the flash flood.
The Dharali Tragedy: A Massive Cloudburst and Flash Flood
The cloudburst occurred in the villages of Dharali, located on the route to Gangotri. The massive downpour resulted in flash floods, which have damaged or completely swept away several houses. Officials have confirmed at least four fatalities as a result of the disaster.
In response to the tragedy, a 16-member ITBP team from its 12th battalion at Matli has already arrived in Dharali. Another team of the same strength has also been directed to join the rescue mission, underscoring the swift and coordinated response from central and state authorities. The focus remains on the immediate rescue and welfare of the residents of Dharali as they cope with the aftermath of this natural calamity.
