A fierce gunfight erupted in the Gudar forest area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist and injuries to an Indian Army soldier. The operation, which is still ongoing, was launched by a joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.
According to officials, the security forces were conducting a search operation when they were fired upon by the terrorists, triggering a swift and fierce exchange of fire. The injured army personnel, a junior commissioned officer, was immediately evacuated and is reportedly in a critical condition.
The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army confirmed the incident in a post on X, stating, “Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one terrorist has been eliminated and a junior commissioned officer suffered injuries. Operation is in progress.”
While one terrorist has been neutralized, security officials believe that two to three more terrorists may still be trapped in the dense forest. Additional forces have been deployed to the area to strengthen the cordon and ensure that the remaining terrorists are apprehended.
This latest encounter is part of intensified anti-terrorism operations being conducted by security forces in the region. Past operations in the Kulgam district, such as “Operation Akhal,” have also resulted in the neutralization of terrorists but have come at the cost of casualties to security forces, highlighting the challenging nature of these operations in the region’s tough terrain.
