Namma Metro Yellow Line To Be Inaugurated Tomorrow: Major Roads To See Closures, Traffic Diversions Announced

Narendra Modi Namma metro yellow line inauguration

Commuters in Bengaluru are advised to plan their travel for Sunday, August 10, as the city prepares for the inauguration of the long-awaited Namma Metro Yellow Line. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the new metro corridor, a 19.15 km stretch connecting RV Road to Bommasandra. The event, along with the Prime Minister’s visit, will lead to significant road closures and traffic diversions in several key areas.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) has released a detailed advisory, urging residents to take note of the restrictions to avoid congestion and delays. The new metro line is a crucial link for thousands of daily commuters, particularly those traveling to the city’s bustling IT hub, Electronics City.

Road Closures and Timings on Sunday

Due to VVIP movement and security protocols, traffic on the following routes will be restricted:

  • Marenahalli Main Road: Closed from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. The affected stretch includes the areas between Rajalakshmi Junction and Marenahalli 18th Main Road, as well as from Marenahalli East End Main Road Junction to Aravind Junction.
  • Hosur Road & Electronic City Elevated Expressway: Traffic will be impacted in both directions. The route from Silk Board to Hosur and from Hosur towards Bengaluru will be restricted from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.
  • Electronics City Phase 1: Several internal roads, including Infosys Avenue, Velankani Road, and HP Avenue Road, will also be closed to public vehicles during the same timeframe from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm.
  • No-Parking Zones: Parking will be prohibited on Marenahalli Main Road, 4th Main Road, and 18th Main Road for the duration of the event.

Alternative Routes for Commuters

To navigate the city and bypass the traffic restrictions, the BTP has provided the following alternative routes:

  • For travel towards Jayadeva Hospital Junction: Commuters can use Sarakki Market Road, passing through IG Circle and RV Dental Junction, to reach their destination.
  • From Hosur Road towards other parts of Bengaluru (Kanakapura, Mysuru, or Tumakuru Roads): It is advised to take Jigani Road from Bommasandra Junction and then proceed to NICE Road via Bannerghatta Road.
  • For those traveling from HSR Layout, Koramangala, and Bellandur towards Hosur: The suggested alternative is to use Sarjapur Road via Chandapura.
  • Local travel within Electronics City Phase 1: Motorists can use 2nd Cross Road, Shikaripalya Road, Hulimangala Road, and Gollahalli Road.

The Namma Metro Yellow Line is set to ease congestion on the heavily trafficked Hosur Road and Silk Board Junction. With 16 stations and a project cost of over ₹7,000 crore, this new metro corridor is expected to serve up to eight lakh daily passengers once it is fully operational, providing a much-needed lifeline to Bengaluru’s tech corridor.
