Namma Metro Grey Line Construction To Start In 2025; Here’s The Full List of 9 Stations

Namma Metro Grey Line

Bengaluru’s Namma Metro network is set for further expansion with the foundation stone for the Grey Line (Hosahalli-Kadabagere corridor) officially being laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This new metro line, which is part of Phase 3 of the Namma Metro project, will be a critical addition to the city’s public transport infrastructure, providing a much-needed connectivity boost to the western parts of Bengaluru.

The 12.5 km Grey Line will feature nine stations and is expected to be a key link for residents along Magadi Road and the surrounding areas. The project aims to significantly reduce traffic congestion and provide a reliable, efficient mode of transport for thousands of commuters.

Construction Timeline and Project Details

The construction of the Grey Line is a major component of the larger Phase 3 plan, which also includes the Orange Line (JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura). The Union Cabinet approved both corridors in August 2024, with a total estimated cost of ₹15,611 crore.

  • Start of Construction: While the foundation stone has been laid, the full-fledged construction work is scheduled to begin in 2025.
  • Expected Completion: The entire Phase 3, including the Grey Line, is projected to be completed by 2029.
  • Project Cost: The total project cost of the two corridors in Phase 3 is estimated to be ₹15,611 crore. Funding for the project will be shared between the Central and State governments, with the remaining capital being sourced through loans from financial institutions.

Stations on the Grey Line

The 12.5 km corridor will have nine stations, providing a vital link for residents and businesses in western Bengaluru. The Grey Line will run along Magadi Road, connecting to the Purple Line at Hosahalli. This interchange will allow commuters to travel seamlessly across the city’s network.

The nine stations along the Grey Line will be:

  • Hosahalli (Interchange with Purple Line)
  • Freedom Fighter’s Colony
  • KHB Layout
  • Prem Nagar
  • Kamakshi Palya
  • Sumanahalli Cross
  • Anjana Nagar
  • Herohalli
  • Kadabagere

The Grey Line’s alignment is strategically designed to serve major residential areas, industrial hubs, and educational institutions, providing an efficient alternative to road transport. The project is expected to benefit over 4.65 lakh daily commuters.

Boosting Bengaluru’s Connectivity

The Grey Line project is part of Namma Metro’s continued expansion, which aims to create a comprehensive network of over 220 km by 2029. With projects like the Yellow Line already being inaugurated and others like the Pink and Blue Lines under construction, Bengaluru’s metro system is rapidly growing. This expansion is crucial for the city, which is grappling with ever-increasing traffic and air pollution. The new lines are expected to ease congestion, reduce travel times, and provide a more sustainable and accessible mode of transportation for citizens.
