Coastal districts of Karnataka are experiencing extremely heavy rainfall due to a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. Red and Orange alerts have been issued for the region, leading to school closures in parts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Kodagu districts.
Dakshina Kannada district has been placed under a Red Alert, indicating the likelihood of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. Following suit, parts of Udupi district, specifically Byndoor taluk, have announced a holiday for Anganwadi, primary, and high schools on July 25th. Tahsildar Ramachandrappa issued the order due to the intense rainfall and localized flooding.
Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts have also declared holidays for all primary and PU colleges on Friday, July 25th, extending a previous holiday on July 24th.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts continued severe rainfall for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts, with an Orange Alert in effect until July 30th. Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts are also under an Orange Alert until July 28th, anticipating heavy rains.
Inland districts of South and North Karnataka, including Belagavi, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayanagara, Yadgir, Ballari, Davangere, Hassan, and Kodagu, are under a Yellow Alert until July 28th, indicating a likelihood of moderate to heavy rainfall.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated with official weather advisories.
