The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for several districts in Karnataka, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in various parts of the state over the coming days. Bengaluru, the state capital, is also set to experience light to moderate showers until at least August 9, providing a much-needed respite from the recent dry spell.
The southwest monsoon has intensified over the state, bringing significant rainfall to coastal and interior regions. As per the latest IMD and Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) reports, a yellow and orange alert has been sounded for numerous districts, prompting authorities to issue advisories for residents and travelers.
Bengaluru’s Weather Outlook
Residents of Bengaluru can expect a wet week ahead. The IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall and cloudy skies in the city until Saturday, August 9. While the rainfall may not be continuous, intermittent showers and thunderstorms are likely, particularly in the afternoons and evenings. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover around 27°C to 29°C, with minimum temperatures around 21°C. This weather pattern is typical for the city’s monsoon season and will help keep temperatures mild and pleasant.
Alerts Issued for Multiple Districts
The weather alert is not limited to Bengaluru. The IMD has issued various warnings for different regions of Karnataka, indicating a widespread and active monsoon.
- Coastal Karnataka: Districts like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada are under a “heavy to very heavy” rain alert for the coming days, with squally weather and strong winds expected along the coast. Fishermen have been advised to stay out of the sea.
- South Interior Karnataka: Several districts, including Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, and Mysuru, are under an orange alert, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall and gusty winds.
- North Interior Karnataka: Districts in the northern part of the state, such as Bidar, Kalburgi, and Raichur, are also on alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Authorities have urged citizens in these regions to remain vigilant, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as the downpours could lead to waterlogging and traffic disruptions. The public is advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated with official weather advisories.
