Himachal Pradesh is reeling under the devastating impact of relentless monsoon rains, which have claimed 257 lives and caused widespread destruction across the state. The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) confirmed that 374 roads, 524 power transformers, and 145 water supply schemes have been severely disrupted.
Death Toll and Causes
- Total fatalities: 257 since June 20
- Rain-related incidents: 133 deaths due to landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, and house collapses
- Road accidents: 124 deaths, largely due to slippery roads and poor visibility
- Worst-hit districts:
- Kangra: 28 deaths
- Mandi: 26 deaths
- Kullu: 11 deaths
- Chamba: 10 deaths
Infrastructure Damage
- Roads blocked: 374, including NH-305 and NH-05
- Power transformers out: 524
- Water supply schemes disrupted: 145

- Mandi: 203 roads closed, 458 transformers down

- Cumulative damage: ₹2,14,403 lakh
- Crops destroyed: ₹1,39,46 lakh worth

Authorities have urged residents to avoid non-essential travel, especially through vulnerable zones. Rescue and restoration efforts are ongoing, but continuous rainfall and fresh landslides are hampering progress. Himachal Pradesh remains on high alert as forecasts predict more heavy rainfall in the coming days.
