In a significant move aimed at mitigating the city’s notorious traffic woes, the Bengaluru Traffic Police have put forth a proposal suggesting that IT companies implement a mandatory work-from-home policy for their employees every Wednesday. This initiative is specifically designed to alleviate the severe traffic congestion that plagues the city, particularly in areas densely populated with IT firms and along the busy Outer Ring Road.
The proposal also includes a recommendation for IT companies to adjust their work hours, suggesting an earlier start time of 7:30 AM. This measure aims to spread out the morning commute and reduce the intense peak hour traffic experienced between 9 AM and 10 AM.
These suggestions were deliberated during a crucial coordination meeting that saw the participation of key civic bodies and industry representatives. Officials from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), and representatives from the Greater Bengaluru IT and Companies Association (GBICA) were present to discuss collaborative solutions to the city’s traffic challenges.
The GBICA, representing a significant portion of the city’s IT sector, expressed their willingness to cooperate with the authorities in their efforts to reduce traffic congestion. However, they also urged the government to prioritize the development of essential infrastructure and ensure the effective enforcement of existing traffic regulations to support these initiatives.
This proposal marks a proactive step by the Bengaluru Traffic Police to address a pressing urban issue, hoping to foster a more manageable and efficient daily commute for thousands of IT professionals and other road users in the tech capital.
