Rajasthan: 7 Students Dead, Over 15 Injured in School Roof Collapse

A tragic incident unfolded in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, on Friday morning as the roof of a primary school building collapsed, resulting in the deaths of six students and injuries to over 15 others. Several more are feared to be trapped under the debris.

The incident occurred at Piplodi Primary School while children were attending classes. A massive rescue operation was immediately launched involving police, local residents, and officials. The 20-year-old school building had a roof made of stone slabs, which is believed to have intensified the impact of the collapse.

Jhalawar Superintendent of Police, Amit Kumar, confirmed that “Four children have died and 17 others are injured. Ten children have been referred to Jhalawar, of whom three to four are critical.” The victims were identified as Class 7 students, aged between 12 and 14 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, stating, “The mishap at a school in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, is tragic and deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the affected students and their families in this difficult hour. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected.”

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma also described the incident as extremely sad and heartbreaking, directing officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured children.

Education Minister Madan Dilawar has announced that a high-level probe will be initiated into the incident.
