Indian women’s cricket team’s middle-order batter, Veda Krishnamurthy, has announced her retirement from international cricket. Veda, who made her international debut in 2011, played 48 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 76 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). Throughout her career, Veda made significant contributions to the success of the Indian women’s team.
Veda Krishnamurthy, originally from Kaduru in Chikmagalur district of Karnataka, debuted against England in an ODI in 2011. She remained with the team until 2018, playing her last ODI against England as well. In her ODI career, Veda scored 829 runs at an average of 25.90, including 8 half-centuries, with her highest score being 71 runs. In T20Is, she accumulated 875 runs in 76 matches at an average of 18.61, including two half-centuries, with an unbeaten 57 as her best score. Her last international match was the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup final.
Announcing her retirement on her official X account, Veda wrote, “From a small-town girl with big dreams to wearing the India jersey with pride. Grateful for everything cricket gave me the lessons, the people, the memories. It’s time to say goodbye to playing, but not to the game. Always for India. Always for the team.”
Veda Krishnamurthy married former Karnataka cricketer Arjun Hoysala in 2023. She also played in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), with her last WPL match being for Gujarat Giants against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2024.
