The iconic Lalbagh Botanical Garden has once again transformed into a mesmerizing floral wonderland, as the much-anticipated Lalbagh Flower Show 2025, themed “Pushpaloka Unveiled,” is now in full bloom. This year’s 218th edition is a magnificent tribute to two of Karnataka’s most celebrated freedom fighters, Kittur Rani Chennamma and Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna, with breathtaking floral sculptures telling their heroic story.
Inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the 12-day event, running from August 7th to August 18th, is a grand spectacle that blends horticulture with history. The show’s theme, “Kittur Chennamma Blooming in Flowers, Sangolli Rayanna’s Heroic Story,” comes alive inside the iconic Glass House, where the central attraction is a colossal, 2,800-square-foot floral replica of the historic Kittur Fort. Crafted from millions of vibrant flowers, this centerpiece is a stunning depiction of the kingdom that stood against British rule.
Visitors are greeted by a striking floral model of Rani Chennamma mounted on her horse, a powerful symbol of her valor and defiance. Nearby, a life-sized standing model of her army chief, Sangolli Rayanna, evokes his fierce loyalty and courage. The narrative of their struggle against colonial forces is further told through an intricate floral recreation of Rayanna’s poignant execution scene, a moving tribute to his ultimate sacrifice.
Beyond the Glass House, the sprawling botanical garden is adorned with countless floral arrangements and vertical gardens that echo the theme. The show also features a meticulous floral recreation of the Veera Rani Kittur Chennammaji Samadhi Sthala (memorial), allowing visitors to pay homage to the queen’s final resting place. To make the experience more immersive, large outdoor screens throughout the garden broadcast historical documentaries, film clips, and pictures that chronicle the lives and bravery of these two legends.
Organized by the Horticulture Department, this year’s show has been prepared with an estimated 36.5 lakh flowers, sourced from across India. In addition to the main attraction, visitors can explore other exhibitions showcasing intricate floral art forms like Ikebana and Thai flower art, as well as displays of vegetable carvings and bonsai.
The Lalbagh Flower Show is not only a celebration of nature’s beauty but a profound reminder of Karnataka’s rich history and the indomitable spirit of its heroes.
